IndyCar Notes for the Upcoming Wild Weekend

Fun in Florida

Since the Roar Before the 24, two more current Verizon IndyCar Series stars have been added to the Rolex 24 at Daytona lineup – bringing the total to 14 from the series. Ryan Hunter-Reay & James Hinchcliffe, former teammates at Andretti Autosport, will be competing on separate teams this year not only in IndyCar but this weekend in Daytona as well.

Hunter-Reay, the 2012 IndyCar Champion, will drive the BMW Riley DP for Starworks Motorsports in the Prototype Class. This will be his 8th time contesting the famous endurance race. Last year he raced the SRT Viper with SRT Motorsports, landing the pole position in class and ending the 24-hour stint as 3rd in class and 12th overall. Back in the 2010, Hunter-Reay finished 3rd in class and overall with Level 5 Motorsports.

Hinchcliffe signs on for the 4th year in a row with Mazda at the Rolex 24. The Speedsource team is surely glad to have him back and there is no doubt that the Mayor and his co-drivers will be looking to land atop the podium on Sunday afternoon.

Motor City Welcomes Families at NAIAS this Friday!

It’s that time of the year again – the North American International Auto Show is back in Detroit, with all it’s  super-charged, shiny wonder. Tomorrow, Friday January 23rd, is Family Day at the show – providing fun activities for car fans of all ages including appearances by professional athletes, a live broadcast with Good Morning America, live music and more! Two of the professional athletes making an appearance are Verizon IndyCar Series drivers, Josef Newgarden and Juan Pablo Montoya. They will be available for autographs and to meet-and-greet with fans from 12pm – 1pm in the new Cobo Center Atrium, overlooking the Detroit Riverfront.

Josef Newgarden, the principal driver for the newly formed Carpenter Fisher Hartman Racing team, heads into the new season fresh off his best career points finish in the Verizon IndyCar Series. Landing seven Top 10 finishes in 2014, one of those being a podium in Iowa this past summer, it’s safe to say that Newgarden’s steady pace is a telling sign of his talent and continued success in the American open-wheel series. Newgarden is certainly one of the most charismatic drivers you will ever meet so make sure you stop down on Friday and say hello to this Tennessee-native .

Juan Pablo Montoya visits the Cobo Center on Family Day for the 2nd year in a row. Last year he attended with a handful of other drivers including Charlie Kimball, to help promote the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. Last year marked Montoya’s return to the IndyCar Series after nearly 15 years… and what a comeback it was! The Team Penske driver finished the 2014 Indianapolis 500 in 5th place and won the Verizon P1 Award for the Pocono IndyCar 500… crossing the finish line in the same position on raceday! Montoya has raced full seasons in Formula 1 and NASCAR as well, so the opportunity to meet such an experienced and successful racer is a pretty awesome one – don’t miss it tomorrow!

I will be attending Family Day at NAIAS tomorrow as well as posting photos and updates on social media all day long – hope you all enjoy! Make sure to let me know if there are any cars you want to see, I will do my best to get a shot of them for you!
