Big Race in the Big Easy – #GPofNOLA

NEW ORLEANS, La – The Big Easy. The nickname has taken on multiple meanings over the past few decades. The origination goes back to the beginning of the 20th century and the name of a particular dance hall here in New Orleans. A journalist in the 1970s rebranded it as a name for the city when they compared it to New York City in an article. NYC has long been known as the The Big Apple and having a fast-paced lifestyle by day and night. New Orleans, with it’s southern charm drenched in culture and sometimes unorthodox beauty, couldn’t be a more opposing retreat. It’s laid back attitude is a testament to the hospitality and friendliness of locals and tourists, alike.

This weekend, the Verizon IndyCar Series is in town and the combination creates a perfect balance. IndyCar and the Grand Prix of NOLA staff have created a welcoming atmosphere for fans – everything you want to access on a race weekend is available to you within a small footprint. Not only can you see the entire road course from the grandstands, but you can also see the paddocks, the Family Fun Zone which houses IndyCar Fan Village and the Karting Center from nearly anywhere you stand.

Keeping that aforementioned balance in check, the DW12s on the track infuse a shot of excitement, speed, and adrenaline into The Big Easy. They say opposites attract, and that definitely stands true this weekend.

The Verizon IndyCar Series will practice twice today at 12:15pm CT and 4:15pm CT, then once on Saturday at 12:30pm CT. They will qualify tomorrow evening, weather permitting, at 4:15pm CT. The Indy Grand Prix of Louisiana will air on Sunday, April 12 on the NBC Sports Network at 2pm CT, 3pm ET.

While down here in New Orleans, I am working with the Grand Prix of NOLA event staff as a Social Media Ambassador. Amy Woedl of IndyCar Mom will also be on the team with me and we will be bringing you updates, pictures, video, articles and more! Make sure you are following all of us by clicking on the links below! Let us know if you have any questions for drivers, photo or video requests, or even questions or requests for us! We are here for you, the FANS, because without you… there IS no IndyCar.

*Don’t mind my dumb face – of all the thumbnails for YouTube to pick… haha… it happens.
