Push to Pass Podcast in association with Live Full Throttle: Simon Pagenaud at Road America

04CJ2727ATeam Penske driver, Simon Pagenaud, returns to Road America this weekend, 10 years after his Champ Car Atlantics Championship win. The National Park of Speed was the 12th and final round in the 2006 Atlantics season and where he clinched, what he refers to as, his “ticket to become a professional racer.”

We also discuss how incredible the DW12 is as a racecar, contrary to some comments we hear nowadays. Pagenaud doesn’t believe any other open-wheel car on the planet is as fast as an Indy car right now and he was just short of gushing about how highly he perceives this track. Specifically, he appreciates how difficult RA is to drive and the fact that it really doesn’t forgive, adding that if a driver messes up, there are big consequences.

The current points leader intends to keep pushing towards wins and the Championship with one simple method: ATTACK. He doesn’t view qualifying position as incredibly important at Road America, expounding that the fans attending or watching the Kohler Grand Prix will get an exciting race on Sunday – especially around the ever-challenging Turn 9 Carousel and the ability of drivers to fight for position, even when buried deep in the pack.
