Today, Tuesday May 16th, marks the first day of car auctions at the Indiana State Fairgrounds with Mecum!
If you’re in the area, make sure you head over and check it out this week. Even if you’re not in the market to purchase one of the vehicles, you can treat it like an auto show and enjoy the eye candy of these polished-up automobiles.
If you are looking to own a Porsche Cayman from the personal collection of Verizon IndyCar Series champion, Simon Pagenaud, head to the auction on Friday, May 19th. He dropped the news on Twitter a few days ago:
I checked the Mecum Auctions site yesterday for details on the limited edition sports car – click here for more information on purchasing, or even if you’re just curious and want to take a peek at the beautiful machine.
Pagenaud’s auction is not the only connection between IndyCar and Mecum this month. They are also sponsoring a car in this year’s 101st Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade – the No. 24 Mecum Auctions Chevy piloted by Sage Karam with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing.
Karam is starting in his 4th Indianapolis 500 this month. His best finish at the event was P9 in 2014, his rookie year in the Verizon IndyCar Series. The 2013 Indy Lights Champion is currently racing in the IMSA Weathertech Sports Car Championship with 3GT Racing alongside Scott Pruett in the Lexus RC F GT3.
Simon Pagenaud currently leads the Championship points battle in the Verizon IndyCar Series – a familiar position for him over the past year. The driver of that bright No. 1 Menard’s Chevy has five top 5 finishes in the first five rounds of the 2017 season, including one win. He grabbed the points lead after said win in Phoenix at the end of April.
He and Karam are both on the hunt for a victory at the Greatest Track in Racing, the oval of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In less than two weeks, we will know if either one of them or one of the other 31 competitors came home with a win at the Cathedral of Speed.
