Saying goodbye to Sonoma

Here we are again, at the end of another IndyCar season. Hard to believe the championship-deciding weekend is already upon us. As I sit here at the same desk I’ve sat at for the past 3 seasons, I can’t help but take in every moment and soak up that California sun shining in thru the window in front of me. After Sunday, there’s no telling when or if the series will return to wine country. This is the last year that the Verizon IndyCar Series is scheduled to race at Sonoma Raceway. The 2.385-mile road course has served as the … Continue reading Saying goodbye to Sonoma

Rossi’s fourth career win was a team effort at Mid-Ohio

Well, that was fun! To say the absolute least. The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course was the stage for one of the best races of the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series season, and the best Indy car race at Mid-Ohio that this lifelong fan can remember. Side-by-side racing, tons of passes, fast laps being set throughout the field, surprises in tire degradation, a slew of strategies across mileages, pit windows, and according to Robert Wickens, “a cheeky start”! That opinion aside, the caution-free 90-lap contest seemed to fly by, given that we were all captivated by the 24-car field’s maneuvers around this … Continue reading Rossi’s fourth career win was a team effort at Mid-Ohio

Rossi earns fourth career pole in single lap stunner at Mid-Ohio

Scott Dixon might be Mr. Mid-Ohio but Alexander Rossi is quickly making a name for himself as well. A career that kicked off with a win at the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 in his rookie year, followed by a sophomore year with five top 5 qualifying positions and just as many wins – the best of which was a pole-to-win weekend in Watkins Glen last year, leads us to this season and his continued growth in the series and as an open-wheel driver. Rossi has out-performed himself on qualifying efforts at 9 of the 13 races this year, … Continue reading Rossi earns fourth career pole in single lap stunner at Mid-Ohio

Rahal clocks fastest lap in final IndyCar practice at Mid-Ohio, field continues to struggle with kits

Look at it this way – the Verizon IndyCar Series is nothing if not consistent at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend.  Another red flag laced practice session started off with a red flag 10 minutes into final practice when Pietro Fittipaldi (No. 19 Paysafe Honda, Dale Coyne Racing) got stuck in a gravel trap after going off up at the Keyhole (Turn 2). He needed assistance to get out, but was then able to head back to pitlane under his own power, and he continued on in the practice session. The second red was called for Matheus Leist … Continue reading Rahal clocks fastest lap in final IndyCar practice at Mid-Ohio, field continues to struggle with kits

Make GREEN your favorite, that’s your new favorite, okay?

We just finished Christmas in July and the reds and greens have been battling all day at Mid-Ohio, so a paraphrased Elf quote seemed to be the way to go with the post title. Plus, I’m a movie nerd that likes to talk to movie quotes, so there’s that. Four reds waved over the Verizon IndyCar Series practice session on this Friday afternoon, bringing the grand total to seven at Mid-Ohio today. The first one came 5 minutes in when Zach Veach, racing an Indy car on his home track for the first time, went off course in Turn 6 … Continue reading Make GREEN your favorite, that’s your new favorite, okay?

An eventful first Practice as IndyCar teams feel out 2018 aero kits at Mid-Ohio

Three red flags make for an eventful practice. Thankfully, no injuries or serious damage was reported, but it could foreshadow a wild weekend ahead of us. These kits are definitely able to throw a wrench into the plans of these drivers, as everyone tests their limits at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course over the next three days. Matheus Leist, one of the first drivers to take to the track after the installation laps, went off track in Turn 5 and caused the first red flag. The AMR Safety Team responded quickly as always and got the No. 4 ABC Supply … Continue reading An eventful first Practice as IndyCar teams feel out 2018 aero kits at Mid-Ohio

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports and Meyer-Shank Racing: Chasing a dream at Mid-Ohio

Most people like to start their work day with coffee. I prefer to start mine with giggly racecar drivers. The Schmidt Peterson Motorsports drivers are at a total of 3 this weekend, thanks to Meyer-Shank Racing being present at their home track of Mid-Ohio, with Jack Harvey behind the wheel of the No. 60 Honda. They all joined us this morning to field some questions and talk about their hopes for Round 13 in the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series season. It was too early for a formal presser according to James Hinchcliffe, leading the charge on the silly vibes and … Continue reading Schmidt Peterson Motorsports and Meyer-Shank Racing: Chasing a dream at Mid-Ohio

IndyCar competition in Toronto is a chess match at 108 mph

Sometimes even the best of intentions don’t go as planned. I’m sure you’ve all been there. Plans are set, your motivation is there, and then something happens. Like unconsciousness. That’s a thing that happens, right? Ha. Yeah, I don’t sleep too much as it is – no secret there. Last night my body decided I was overdue and I totally fell asleep with my laptop. I wish I could tell you that was a rare occurrence in my life, but I won’t lie to you guys. Similarly, the guys in the Firestone Fast 6 had good intentions of earning the … Continue reading IndyCar competition in Toronto is a chess match at 108 mph

Don’t rain on my parade. Qualifying, however…

A new Verizon IndyCar Series track record at Toronto? The odds are definitely in our favor this afternoon. Takuma Sato, Josef Newgarden, Will Power, and Alexander Rossi all clocked laps faster than the current track record, set by Simon Pagenaud in 2017. Since practice laps can not be record-holding times, we have to wait for the qualifying efforts this afternoon. Pagenaud’s streak of speed was good enough for the pole position last year, but it was his Team Penske teammate, Newgarden, that found victory at the end of the weekend. They both have something to prove with Newgarden fighting to … Continue reading Don’t rain on my parade. Qualifying, however…
