An eventful first Practice as IndyCar teams feel out 2018 aero kits at Mid-Ohio

Three red flags make for an eventful practice. Thankfully, no injuries or serious damage was reported, but it could foreshadow a wild weekend ahead of us. These kits are definitely able to throw a wrench into the plans of these drivers, as everyone tests their limits at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course over the next three days. Matheus Leist, one of the first drivers to take to the track after the installation laps, went off track in Turn 5 and caused the first red flag. The AMR Safety Team responded quickly as always and got the No. 4 ABC Supply … Continue reading An eventful first Practice as IndyCar teams feel out 2018 aero kits at Mid-Ohio

Team Penske is the Common Theme Across Honda Indy Toronto Practices

Unlike last year, I am not in Canada for the Honda Indy Toronto this weekend. Initially those reasons as to why, were related to work, but as it turns out I needed to be home for a family situation. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. The Verizon IndyCar Series, the work I am privileged to do while covering race weekends on the ground, and everyone I’ve met because of it has made the series a second home for me, and a family in many ways. But nothing can compare to actual family, the unconditional support and love that bonds … Continue reading Team Penske is the Common Theme Across Honda Indy Toronto Practices

Push to Pass Podcast 55 – Lyn St. James, Charlie Kimball and James Hinchcliffe at PRI

Push to Pass comes to you live from the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show in Downtown Indianapolis, where Dusty & Shay caught up with a few IndyCar drivers to discuss their current projects and the upcoming season. Lyn St. James gave us some great insight into the motor racing world from a female perspective. She’s a racer first and foremost and her book, An Incredible Journey, is the story of her racing life. Dusty and I both picked up a copy at PRI and look forward to reading it over the holidays. Speaking of, it would make a great gift … Continue reading Push to Pass Podcast 55 – Lyn St. James, Charlie Kimball and James Hinchcliffe at PRI

IndyCar Practice Proves Pocono Raceway is Equal Parts Spectacular, Unforgiving

Pocono Raceway is magnificent. It was built for open-wheel racing, being modeled after Trenton Speedway, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the Milwaukee Mile. The Verizon IndyCar Series simply “fits” here. This is my second time at the Long Pond venue, and I forgot how awe-inspiring it can be. I stood at pit out this morning, as the Practice 1 green flag dropped at 9:00 a.m. ET precisely. I watched the field take to the track and it astounded me, the amount of time it took them to reach the peak of the Turn 1 entry and then begin their laps. The … Continue reading IndyCar Practice Proves Pocono Raceway is Equal Parts Spectacular, Unforgiving

Ganassi Goes 1-2 in Morning Practice at Pocono

Charlie Kimball ran his No. 83 Chevy to the front of the pack during this morning’s practice session at Pocono Raceway. The Chip Ganassi Racing Teams driver is fighting to put another win on his Verizon IndyCar Series resume. Especially since the next race win for his team will be a monumental one – the 100th IndyCar win for CGRT. Ganassi had a strong year in Long Pond, PA back in 2013 with a swept podium where Kimball took P2. That was also the year that Dixon won his third and most recent IndyCar Series Championship (which, by the way, … Continue reading Ganassi Goes 1-2 in Morning Practice at Pocono

Team Penske Back on Pole; Rahal & Kimball Have Sights Set on Success in Motor City

Two weekends ago, Scott Dixon and Chip Ganassi Racing ended a Team Penske streak. Up until the Indianapolis 500, Penske cars led every 2015 race field to the green flag. This weekend in Detroit, they’ve fallen right back into their routine. Will Power clinched his second Verizon P1 Award of the year this afternoon, when he landed the pole position for Race #1 of the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit. Oh, and he broke the track record in the process with a 1:16:0941 lap during the Firestone Fast 6! The previous record only stood one year.  Takuma Sato of A.J. Foyt … Continue reading Team Penske Back on Pole; Rahal & Kimball Have Sights Set on Success in Motor City

Rahal, Kimball and Castroneves Hit Highs at GP of Indy

This article was originally published on MTAF Wheels, which is now dark. Thank you for enjoying it here through the Live Full Throttle Archives.  I am a fan of the underdog. Always have been. I like going to see bands that no one has heard of, I like rooting for my Cleveland Indians even though the rest of the world thinks it’s pointless. It’s so excited when the underdog makes a splash and surprises “everyone”. That gets quotes around it because what that phrase really means is that the winner or the contender or the entertainer was not the popular … Continue reading Rahal, Kimball and Castroneves Hit Highs at GP of Indy

IndyCar Presence at Roar Before the 24 this Weekend

Last year around this time, I ventured into my first article on the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship – I did so by looking at an aspect of it that crossed paths with my passion, IndyCar. I profiled the IndyCar drivers of past and present that were entered to test at the Roar Before the 24 in Daytona. I had a good time with that article and it’s still one of my favorites when I look back – from the research and the organizing to the writing and editing. I decided to do it again this year but only looking at … Continue reading IndyCar Presence at Roar Before the 24 this Weekend

And Then There Were Three: IndyCar Weekend at the Milwaukee Mile

After two practice sessions yesterday, it seemed that James Hinchcliffe would be the man to beat at the Milwaukee Mile. But towards the end of practice #2, the back of his Honda-powered UFD-sponsored Andretti Autosport DW12 got away from him and backed him into the wall. This did not affect his spot at the top of the timing & scoring board however; Hinchcliffe ran the quickest laps in both the morning & the afternoon and did so within the first few handful of laps in each session. The cars seem to be sticking quickly in Milwaukee this weekend, but the … Continue reading And Then There Were Three: IndyCar Weekend at the Milwaukee Mile
