Ed Carpenter Racing, Team Penske dominate Fast 9 qualifying positions

Four teams will battle for the pole position of the 102nd Running of the Indianapolis 500, but two of those teams have 7 of the Fast 9 positions covered. Given no-tow speeds on Friday, it’s not surprising to see all four of the Team Penske drivers (Helio Castroneves, Josef Newgarden, Simon Pagenaud, and Will Power) in that mix, but the pleasant surprise and crazy impressive feat of Saturday was seeing Ed Carpenter Racing put all three of their cars in the first three rows. Spencer Pigot, strapped in to his No. 21 Preferred Freezer Service ECR Chevrolet, was the fifth … Continue reading Ed Carpenter Racing, Team Penske dominate Fast 9 qualifying positions

Push to Pass Podcast [S3E9] – Just a Little Bit of News to Go Over…

Zach returns to join Adrian and I to review the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach and discuss what might be the biggest story in motorsports over the past decade, if not longer – the announcement of Fernando Alonso competing in the 101st Running of the Indianapolis 500 with Andretti Autosport. Dusty & I sit down and talk to Michael Shank, who is partnering with Andretti Autosport this May in order to run Jack Harvey in the No. 50 Auto Nation Honda. Shank explains the nature of the partnership, his commitment to racing and the lifelong dream that is about … Continue reading Push to Pass Podcast [S3E9] – Just a Little Bit of News to Go Over…

Push to Pass Podcast [S3E8] – Long Beach Preview

The Blonde and the Brit take over Push to Pass this week! Amazingly, we didn’t burn the place down. Adrian Rickard joined me to co-host the Push to Pass podcast in Zach’s absence (get better soon, buddy!) and while Dusty is covering the Purdue Grand Prix this month for Slipstream Network. Standing Start News recaps everything from the first animal to sponsor an IndyCar and some very impressive fan renderings of the 2018 liveries. We get cheeky about Honda dominating the Sonoma testing this past Tuesday (if sarcasm isn’t your forte, this could be a rough episode for you) Preview … Continue reading Push to Pass Podcast [S3E8] – Long Beach Preview

Honda, Coyne Find Speed at Watkins Glen in Final Practice

On a weekend where Chevy has dominated every session of practice and the first 4 rows of the starting grid for the IndyCar Grand Prix of The Glen, Honda made quite a statement in Sunday morning practice. Rookie teammates RC Enerson and Conor Daly of Dale Coyne Racing ran the second and fourth fastest laps in final practice, while Graham Rahal of RLL Racing rounded out the Top 5. Polesitter Scott Dixon of Chip Ganassi Racing took the top seed yet again and Josef Newgarden, who had a wreck in morning practice on Saturday, clocked the third quickest lap with … Continue reading Honda, Coyne Find Speed at Watkins Glen in Final Practice

Five Championship Contenders Break Out in Final Practice at Mid-Ohio; Power and Dixon Each Looking for Third Honda Indy 200 Pole

The final practice for the Verizon IndyCar Series at Mid-Ohio this weekend yielded impressive numbers. The top 16 cars out of the 22-car field ran laps faster than the track record. Remember that practice times do not count towards official track records, so we will just have to hope for a dry track and prime conditions this afternoon in qualifying. According to the current hourly forecasts, the potential for storms will move in during the 4:00 p.m. ET hour. It’s also worth noting that the entire field of 22 cars was separated by 1.0424 seconds. Yes, less than a second-and-a-half … Continue reading Five Championship Contenders Break Out in Final Practice at Mid-Ohio; Power and Dixon Each Looking for Third Honda Indy 200 Pole

Newgarden Exceeds Track Record in Detroit GP Practice 2

The second practice for the Verizon IndyCar Series saw young gun Josef Newgarden accelerate into seriously impressive time frames. In fact, he broke right out of those frames! He ran a lap of 1:14.6464 in this morning’s 30 minute practice round. This was faster than the track record that Helio Castroneves set yesterday during Round 2 of qualifying for Dual #1 of the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans. Unfortunately practice laps do not count towards official track records, so Josef takes away the bragging rights but nothing in the stat books. That is, unless… he puts up … Continue reading Newgarden Exceeds Track Record in Detroit GP Practice 2

Andretti and SPM Show Muscle with Honda in First Day of Indianapolis 500 Qualifying

We set the field for qualifying yesterday, dividing up the 33 entered cars into two groups. Saturday’s attempts determined who would occupy the first 3 rows on race day and consequently, which nine drivers would have the opportunity to fight for pole position for the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Oil. Today, on day 2 of qualifying, we determine grid placement within said groups. The most surprising part of yesterday’s results was the lack of Ganassi Racing cars in the Fast Nine. The other surprising aspect? Honda-powered entries outnumbering Chevys. What was that about domed skids? … Continue reading Andretti and SPM Show Muscle with Honda in First Day of Indianapolis 500 Qualifying

Team Chevy Dominates IndyCar Return to Phoenix

Simon Pagenaud finished in the runner-up position at Phoenix International Speedway on April 2nd, the same result he landed in the season opener at St. Petersburg just three weeks ago. This marks his best career finish on an oval track and also boosts him into the points lead. “I just want to say… how much of a team sport this is. The guys have been tremendous since St. Pete, and at the end of the day we were able to save a bit of fuel, the one stint before the end, and they did a magic pit stop so they … Continue reading Team Chevy Dominates IndyCar Return to Phoenix
