Steinbrenner Opts for IndyCar over Yankees

Twenty year old George Michael Steinbrenner was born into a family that made their name in the world of sports. He is fully prepared to continue that legend, but his career preference is speed and cars, not baseballs and bats. When asked how he made the choice between continuing the family trade, as it were, or pursuing a career in motorsports he explained that it was never an ultimatum moment of “hey, pick one!”. It was just a natural pull for him towards racing. I think that’s pretty cool to hear because let’s be honest, the IndyCar Series is definitely … Continue reading Steinbrenner Opts for IndyCar over Yankees

Davey Hamilton, Jr. Carries on Family Tradition

The more track action, the better. This is the mentality of every passionate racing driver you’ll meet. It’s also the mentality held by the majority of track owners, event promoters, and racing fans. Everyone loves when the Verizon IndyCar Series has support series with them at race weekends – there is never dull moment and you’ll always see something new. Support series expose racing fans to new cars, drivers, and forms of racing. Like, ramps. Yes, ramps. V8 trucks hauling their larger-than-life radio-controlled-car exteriors through the air at full speed with the help of a ramp. The reactions of the … Continue reading Davey Hamilton, Jr. Carries on Family Tradition

Time to Go Racing: Welcome to St. Petersburg

Hard to believe it’s already been one year since attending my first Verizon IndyCar Series as a member of the media. I feel like I’ve grown as a professional and even as a fan. I’ve met more people than I could possibly count, many of which I know will be a part of my life forever. One of the reasons I love this work so very much, besides the obvious racing aspects, is because I learn something new on a daily basis. There is always someone who can tell me a story, enlighten me about a historic aspect of the … Continue reading Time to Go Racing: Welcome to St. Petersburg

Cleveland’s 2015 IndyCar Connection

Surrounded by multiple Maseratis, a bright orange McLaren, a Rolls Royce that refuses to be categorized into a single “type” of automobile and a yellow Porsche that is as equally beautiful as it is blinding, is not a bad way to spend a Friday morning – particularly when it’s being done on Millionaire’s Row. Collection Auto Group, recently rebranded as Bernie Moreno Companies, presents the foreign & luxury car lineup every year at the Cleveland Auto Show and it’s a not-to-be-missed exhibit of lavish vehicles for attendees. I spoke with Bernie about the past year of sponsorship that Collection Auto … Continue reading Cleveland’s 2015 IndyCar Connection

Cold Winter Months Yield Hot-off-the-Press IndyCar Announcements

Most people don’t think of December as a motorsports kind of month. Those people would be wrong. The Race of Champions took place this past weekend in Barbados, announcements throughout multiple series are dropping on a daily basis for the 2015 season and on December 11-13 in Indianapolis, the Performance Racing Industry show took place at the Indiana Convention Center. The Verizon IndyCar Series had three packed days of panels, interviews, announcements, and program updates at PRI 2014. Let’s take a look at a few of the big stories from the event! Partnership between CFH Racing & State of Indiana … Continue reading Cold Winter Months Yield Hot-off-the-Press IndyCar Announcements

What Off-Season? The Racing World Never Slows Down

The first official weekend of the Verizon IndyCar Series Off-Season did not feel like a weekend off to me! In fact, it was just as packed with coverage, travel & the beautiful sound of race cars as the past 6 months. The last official testing of the Indy Lights new Dallara chassis, known as the IL-15, was this past Saturday at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This was the only testing for the car that I was able to attend, given my schedule, but I found it a beautiful sort of “full circle” event, seeing as how I was in … Continue reading What Off-Season? IndyCar at the Rolex 24

A couple weeks ago, we started the year off with a Roar in Daytona. The teams for the Rolex 24 tested and I ventured into my first legitimate SportsCar-focused piece. I think it went pretty well and I appreciated all the feedback from you, the readers! Time to bring the spotlight back on these drivers and teams in Daytona… the green flag drops in just nine days and I don’t know about you, but my DVR is already set and I’m in the process of memorizing the car numbers of my favorite drivers. Given that the entry list was officially … Continue reading IndyCar at the Rolex 24

Fontana Finale

This weekend is all about the numbers. 25 – the number of points that separate Scott Dixon & Helio Castroneves as they battle for the IZOD IndyCar Series Championship. It is also the number of cars entered into the Finale at Fontana. 11 – the number of different IndyCar winners we would have this season, should a first-time winner take the checkered in Fontana. This would tie the current record. If one of them were to make it to Victory Lane for the MAVTV 500, they would be the 11th different driver to win a race this season, tying the … Continue reading Fontana Finale
