Saying goodbye to Sonoma

Here we are again, at the end of another IndyCar season. Hard to believe the championship-deciding weekend is already upon us. As I sit here at the same desk I’ve sat at for the past 3 seasons, I can’t help but take in every moment and soak up that California sun shining in thru the window in front of me. After Sunday, there’s no telling when or if the series will return to wine country. This is the last year that the Verizon IndyCar Series is scheduled to race at Sonoma Raceway. The 2.385-mile road course has served as the … Continue reading Saying goodbye to Sonoma

Rossi earns fourth career pole in single lap stunner at Mid-Ohio

Scott Dixon might be Mr. Mid-Ohio but Alexander Rossi is quickly making a name for himself as well. A career that kicked off with a win at the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 in his rookie year, followed by a sophomore year with five top 5 qualifying positions and just as many wins – the best of which was a pole-to-win weekend in Watkins Glen last year, leads us to this season and his continued growth in the series and as an open-wheel driver. Rossi has out-performed himself on qualifying efforts at 9 of the 13 races this year, … Continue reading Rossi earns fourth career pole in single lap stunner at Mid-Ohio

Rahal clocks fastest lap in final IndyCar practice at Mid-Ohio, field continues to struggle with kits

Look at it this way – the Verizon IndyCar Series is nothing if not consistent at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend.  Another red flag laced practice session started off with a red flag 10 minutes into final practice when Pietro Fittipaldi (No. 19 Paysafe Honda, Dale Coyne Racing) got stuck in a gravel trap after going off up at the Keyhole (Turn 2). He needed assistance to get out, but was then able to head back to pitlane under his own power, and he continued on in the practice session. The second red was called for Matheus Leist … Continue reading Rahal clocks fastest lap in final IndyCar practice at Mid-Ohio, field continues to struggle with kits

Make GREEN your favorite, that’s your new favorite, okay?

We just finished Christmas in July and the reds and greens have been battling all day at Mid-Ohio, so a paraphrased Elf quote seemed to be the way to go with the post title. Plus, I’m a movie nerd that likes to talk to movie quotes, so there’s that. Four reds waved over the Verizon IndyCar Series practice session on this Friday afternoon, bringing the grand total to seven at Mid-Ohio today. The first one came 5 minutes in when Zach Veach, racing an Indy car on his home track for the first time, went off course in Turn 6 … Continue reading Make GREEN your favorite, that’s your new favorite, okay?

An eventful first Practice as IndyCar teams feel out 2018 aero kits at Mid-Ohio

Three red flags make for an eventful practice. Thankfully, no injuries or serious damage was reported, but it could foreshadow a wild weekend ahead of us. These kits are definitely able to throw a wrench into the plans of these drivers, as everyone tests their limits at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course over the next three days. Matheus Leist, one of the first drivers to take to the track after the installation laps, went off track in Turn 5 and caused the first red flag. The AMR Safety Team responded quickly as always and got the No. 4 ABC Supply … Continue reading An eventful first Practice as IndyCar teams feel out 2018 aero kits at Mid-Ohio

Don’t rain on my parade. Qualifying, however…

A new Verizon IndyCar Series track record at Toronto? The odds are definitely in our favor this afternoon. Takuma Sato, Josef Newgarden, Will Power, and Alexander Rossi all clocked laps faster than the current track record, set by Simon Pagenaud in 2017. Since practice laps can not be record-holding times, we have to wait for the qualifying efforts this afternoon. Pagenaud’s streak of speed was good enough for the pole position last year, but it was his Team Penske teammate, Newgarden, that found victory at the end of the weekend. They both have something to prove with Newgarden fighting to … Continue reading Don’t rain on my parade. Qualifying, however…

From The Land to The Six

I might question my own sanity sometimes, and you are welcome to do the same. But don’t ever question my commitment to racing. This season has presented more obstacles and logistical nightmares than ever before, and it’s made it very difficult to bring you guys consistent content. I’m not going to try and skate around that fact. But it will not stop me from trying to improve and trying to create the time and trying to be present for as many races as physically possible. I’m playing with some ideas that will allow me to give you more content, in … Continue reading From The Land to The Six

Wickens shows speed in final practice before Road America qualifying, leads field

Robert Wickens and Ryan Hunter-Reay topped timing and scoring this morning, with their Honda-powered beasts. Wickens, behind the wheel of the No. 6 Lucas SPM car was the only driver in the final practice to break the 1:43 mark with a 1:42.991 lap. Hunter-Reay was ever-so-slightly trailing with a 1:43.172 best time in the No. 28 DHL Andretti Autosport ride. Simon Pagenaud was the fastest running Chevy, and his day-glo yellow No. 22 Menards Team Penske machine was the only bowtie in the Top 5, with Alexander Rossi (No. 27 Napa Andretti Autosport Honda) and Graham Rahal (No. 15 Gehl … Continue reading Wickens shows speed in final practice before Road America qualifying, leads field

Newgarden sweeps Friday sessions, Wickens ready to battle for win at Road America

More of the same this afternoon, as Josef Newgarden runs fastest in the second Friday practice session at Road America, clocking a 1:42.6279 lap, ousting his own morning fast lap by about six-tenths of a second. There was a bit of sunshine in the final 5 minutes of the session, a welcome bit of brightness for most folks. Though if I’m being completely honest with you, I was completely in love with today and all it’s grey beautiful wonder. After weeks of 80 to 90 degree temperatures, whether at home or on the road, this windy cloud-covered day was perfection. … Continue reading Newgarden sweeps Friday sessions, Wickens ready to battle for win at Road America
