Robert Wickens and Ryan Hunter-Reay topped timing and scoring this morning, with their Honda-powered beasts. Wickens, behind the wheel of the No. 6 Lucas SPM car was the only driver in the final practice to break the 1:43 mark with a 1:42.991 lap. Hunter-Reay was ever-so-slightly trailing with a 1:43.172 best time in the No. 28 DHL Andretti Autosport ride. Newgarden sweeps Friday sessions, Wickens ready to battle for win at Road America

More of the same this afternoon, as Josef Newgarden runs fastest in the second Friday practice session at Road America, clocking a 1:42.6279 lap, ousting his own morning fast lap by about six-tenths of a second. There was a bit of sunshine in the final 5 minutes of the session, a welcome bit of brightness for most folks. Newgarden leads Friday morning practice at Road America, not yet thinking about Championship

The 23-car Verizon IndyCar Series field roared back into action today, on the 14-turn road course of Road America. Scott Dixon (No. 9, Ganassi Racing Teams) starts this weekend as the points leader, a position he moved into after his win in Texas 2 weeks ago. Raceday at Road America is once again a reality for IndyCar. We missed 8 years at this track, and after being here for just 4 days, I feel justified in saying that any kind of absence at THIS track for THIS series, is sinful. Let’s not let that happen again.
