Newgarden Continues to Impress, Briscoe Making His Mark

Josef Newgarden. If you don’t know that name by now, you should probably get used to hearing it in the world of IndyCar. The CFH Racing driver is in his fourth year with the Verizon IndyCar Series and in his first year with the newly formed team. It would appear that working as part of a multi-car team has helped progress Newgarden’s career in a very favorable fashion. He has already won two races this year – the first of his career at Barber Motorsports Park in April and his sophomore win coming in Toronto this past month. This weekend … Continue reading Newgarden Continues to Impress, Briscoe Making His Mark

From Detroit to Texas, IndyCar Underdogs Are Having Their Day

The past week presented us with two fantastic examples of on-track Verizon IndyCar Series talent. We started the week on Sunday with the second race of the Dual in Detroit and ended it on Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas. The tracks couldn’t be any different – the former a temporary street circuit on a island between the Motor City in Michigan and Windsor, ON in Canada; the latter a mile-and-a-half oval yielding speeds of 215mph+ from IndyCars, and currently in its 20th year of operation. The selection of drivers I chose to focus on for this piece are also very … Continue reading From Detroit to Texas, IndyCar Underdogs Are Having Their Day

IndyCar Presence at Roar Before the 24 this Weekend

Last year around this time, I ventured into my first article on the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship – I did so by looking at an aspect of it that crossed paths with my passion, IndyCar. I profiled the IndyCar drivers of past and present that were entered to test at the Roar Before the 24 in Daytona. I had a good time with that article and it’s still one of my favorites when I look back – from the research and the organizing to the writing and editing. I decided to do it again this year but only looking at … Continue reading IndyCar Presence at Roar Before the 24 this Weekend

Can Top 5 Starters Yield Another Verizon IndyCar Series Winner at Sonoma?

This is it. The last week of the IndyCar season is upon us. These last seven days will answer the question of who will be your 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series Champion. These last seven days will also give us two amazing races that are sure to fire up cars and tempers. They are sure to produce edge-of-your-seat racing entertainment and nail-biting maneuvers. Some of those maneuvers will be demonstrated later today as the field of 22 leaves it all out on the track from green to checkered. More than likely, the focus will remain on the Top 5 starters. It … Continue reading Can Top 5 Starters Yield Another Verizon IndyCar Series Winner at Sonoma?

And Then There Were Three: IndyCar Weekend at the Milwaukee Mile

After two practice sessions yesterday, it seemed that James Hinchcliffe would be the man to beat at the Milwaukee Mile. But towards the end of practice #2, the back of his Honda-powered UFD-sponsored Andretti Autosport DW12 got away from him and backed him into the wall. This did not affect his spot at the top of the timing & scoring board however; Hinchcliffe ran the quickest laps in both the morning & the afternoon and did so within the first few handful of laps in each session. The cars seem to be sticking quickly in Milwaukee this weekend, but the … Continue reading And Then There Were Three: IndyCar Weekend at the Milwaukee Mile

Mid-Ohio has Briscoe Ready to Battle for IndyCar Victory

Earlier this season, I mentioned my prediction that Ganassi Racing Teams driver Ryan Briscoe would find victory this year. He has not been atop the podium since 2012 in Sonoma but his recent racing is showing that he’s definitely headed in the direction of Victory Lane once again. Today’s Verizon IndyCar Series practice sessions at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course showed the continued consistency of Briscoe in 2014, running P9 in the first round and P5 in the second round – he was fastest in that second session for the majority of the 44 minute round. If these practice sessions … Continue reading Mid-Ohio has Briscoe Ready to Battle for IndyCar Victory

Drivers, Sunshine & Good Times – Part II

I’m a woman of my word. I promised you a second portion of highlights from media day, and here it is. I hope you enjoy this half as much as I enjoyed putting it all together. My excitement for this season is just constantly increasing. It’s going to be a special one, I can tell already. It’s actually kind of hard to believe that the 2014 IndyCar season opening weekend is merely 4 weeks away in St. Petersburg, Florida. Let’s see what the other half of drivers had to say about the upcoming year… you’ll laugh, you’ll cry… heck, you … Continue reading Drivers, Sunshine & Good Times – Part II

Starting Off the Year with a Roar

There’s no better time to learn something new than at the beginning of the year. It feels fresh – like we are starting with a clean slate and the possibilities are endless. The other great thing about the beginning of a new year, particularly if you are a race fan, is that the race season officially starts this month with the Rolex 24 in Daytona at the end of January. The Roar Before the 24 is this weekend, however. And that’s where my “learning something new” comes in. My best friend and I became best friends for a lot of … Continue reading Starting Off the Year with a Roar
